How To: Shoot The Perfect Selfie

How To: Shoot The Perfect Selfie

Let's face it (no pun intended!) - selfies are a way of life in this age of technology, but can be a really fun way to share your unique style with the rest of us! As we head into the fall season and wardrobes everywhere are getting a refresh, we compiled a quick check list of our best selfie taking tips and tricks for you to make snapping a great pic a flash!

Phone Check - check your phone lens for dirt/smudges

Before you take a pic, make sure your phone lens is clean to prevent blurry photos. If you're taking a selfie by pointing your camera into a full-length mirror, don't forget to clean your mirror as well! Large smudges on a mirror can be distracting and take away from the primary focus, you! There's nothing wrong with doing a quick mirror wipe down before snapping a selfie (bonus - you just did some housework, too!).

Lighting - natural lighting is key for a great photo

Whether indoors or out, lighting is key for a great pic. If you're inside, try to get as close to natural lighting as possible by positioning yourself so that you are facing a window. You may need to play with angles to get the best lighting for your indoor space. Lighting is easier to utilize outdoors, but be mindful of shadows cutting into your shot. And watch out for filters - these can oftentimes alter the color of your G&L outfit you've worked to hard to show off! If you have to use a filter, stick to ones that are as natural as possible.

Surroundings - don't include anything you don't want people to see!

This includes laundry, personals, etc. We're all for keeping it real on social media, but sometimes you just don't want people seeing that pile of laundry that's been sitting there for a week! Make sure whatever's in your frame is not going to distract from your beautiful face or that cute outfit you put your time and effort into styling!

Angles - keep your phone "above the horizon"

When taking a reverse-facing shot on your phone, the higher the better! If you're taking a selfie without a mirror, make sure to keep your phone angled chin high or higher to capture your full outfit.

Where to Look

Honestly, anywhere you want! If using a mirror, your natural reaction may be to look at your reflection in the mirror. This is just fine! You can also try looking at your phone screen, the phone camera reflection in the mirror, or off to the side. For a fun change up, you can even position the phone just in front of your face so the focus is entirely on your styled look.

Ok- I was excited to read this blog post but I still need a little more help! I have the mirror, I have the iPhone and I DEFINITELY have the clothes. But I still for the life of me don’t know how to take a full length selfi!🙄

These are great tips! I think some of these are often overlooked. I’m glad you mentioned “where to look”! I never know if I’m doing that part correctly😅 Now I can change it up. Thanks for the comfortable and beautiful designs for all body types! Definitely makes me feel great and put together.
